Since MTV first swept the nation in the eighties, they’ve faced the same problem: how do you keep people watching during the commercials. Over time, MTV has developed a lineup of compelling narrative and reality shows that help to keep people tuned in during the commercial break. But the issue has never completely disappeared.
One way we’re helping solve the problem is through the use of new technologies like iTV. Recently, MTV and Tractor collaborated on a weekly one-hour show called ‘Hijack’ that allows viewers to take control of the network’s broadcast. “Hijacked” MTV looks just like regular MTV but with a graphical overlay. Using the new interface viewers engage and compete in a series of games and adventures as they watch network programming. With ‘Hijack,’ we’re helping MTV create an entirely new viewing experience, and at the same time, keep its viewers for more than three minutes at a time.
