An award-winning interactive storybook

Weirdwood Manor

Weirdwood Manor is an interactive storybook created for the most demanding client we’ve ever had: ourselves.

We set out to create a modern app that would captivate kids while pleasing parents and educators, using elements inspired by classic tales like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Harry Potter. The goal was to recapture the magic we felt when we were young, on those nights we’d stay up late reading books by flashlight under the covers. Can you blame us?

Weirdwood Manor was developed over a period of 2 years starting with creating the components that make an app both fun and challenging: memorable characters, an offbeat sense of humor, and a series of mysterious puzzles in a memorable setting. The story follows three children, Oliver, Celia, and Eugene, as they explore a strange mansion filled with adventures and incredible magical artifacts. We took special care in creating the look of the characters and locations to make the game feel timeless. All 3d animation and programming was completed in-house, using Maya, Arnold, 3D Studio Max and Adobe After Effect. Then the game with put through extensive playtesting to ensure the user interface was child-friendly, and truly fun.

“Combining elements of magic and fantasy with interactivity, these beautifully illustrated books encourage readers to discover fun puzzles and fascinating artifacts.”

A smash success

For our efforts, Weirdwood Manor won critical acclaim and was honored to be named one of Apple’s Apps of the Year. And the adventures will live on in a new medium, as it’s being developed as an animated series for television. But the greatest reward of all has been the love we’ve received from parents and kids who have bonded over exploring the mysteries of Weirdwood Manor together.

“Weirdwood Manor is an original book-app series that will stir the reader’s imagination. Combining elements of magic and fantasy with interactivity, these beautifully illustrated books encourage readers to discover fun puzzles and fascinating artifacts. All in all, this is an interesting series with great production value that you wouldn’t want to miss out.”Geeks with Juniors
